Since 1930, the Newfoundland Club of America (NCA) has been the voice for all who love and treasure the Newfoundland Dog. As the sanctioned Parent Club for the breed in the United States and a proud member of the American Kennel Club, the NCA works to preserve, protect, promote, and celebrate this remarkable breed.
The NCA is a welcoming group of passionate Newfoundland owners, breeders, exhibitors, and enthusiasts. We aspire to be a vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive community recognized as the leading voice for the preservation, protection, promotion, and celebration of the Newfoundland Dog.
Together, we:
Encourage and promote the quality and well-being of purebred Newfoundlands.
Protect and advance the interests of the breed while encouraging good sportsmanship at all events.
Support rescue and adoption assistance for Newfs in need.
Sponsor and celebrate the special qualities of the breed through working events such as water and draft tests.
Encourage education, mentorship, and responsible ownership guided by the NCA Ethics Guide.
Build friendships and connections by bringing fanciers together in friendly counsel and shared purpose.
As the Parent Club for the Newfoundland Dog in the United States, the NCA serves as the guardian of the Breed Standard, the written description of the ideal Newfoundland, and carries the responsibility of preserving the qualities that make this breed so distinctive. This role extends beyond maintaining the written standard; it includes educating breeders, owners, judges, and the general public about correct type, sound structure, and the temperament that defines the Newfoundland.
We actively support:
Health Research dedicated specifically to Newfoundlands
Rescue and Rehoming for Newfoundland dogs in need.
Regional and National Events that showcase the working history, beauty, and versatility of the breed.
Mentorship and Education for all who wish to learn more about these Gentle Giants.
Support and Resources for responsible preservation breeders.
The NCA works hand in hand with its Regional Clubs to strengthen the Newfoundland community and bring its vision to life. The NCA is proud to support more than 20 recognized regional clubs across the United States. Together, the NCA and Regional Clubs create a vibrant network that not only preserves the breed’s heritage and working traditions but also fosters friendships, mentorship, and shared learning among those who love Newfoundlands.
Regional clubs celebrate the breed through:
Fun days, picnics, and hikes
Seminars, Training Groups and Testing in water rescue, draft work and more
Specialty shows and obedience trials
Seminars, grooming clinics, and educational programs
